Children are among the most vulnerable victims of conflict. Following the receipt of the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize for its achievements in peace on the European continent, the EU dedicated the prize money to help girls and boys around the world who are deprived of the opportunity to grow up in peace. The EU Children of Peace initiative aims to address a severely underfunded sector: education in emergencies. In its first two years the EU has, through the initiative and its partner organisations, reached more than 108 000 girls and boys in 12 countries around the world.
