Elliot Eisner, professor of Art and Education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, presented a rich and powerful alternative vision to the devastating cuts made to the arts in U.S. schools in recent decades and argued that a curriculum that includes music, dance and art is essential in developing critical thinking skills in children. He died on Jan. 10, 2014 from complications related to Parkinson's disease. The National Art Education Association, of which he served as president, turned his list – "10 Lessons the Arts Teach" – into a poster, which can still be found today hanging on school walls nationwide -- view article on Stanford | News"The arts' position in the school curriculum symbolizes to the young what adults BELIEVE is IMPORTANT"
